Next to sunbathing and sight seeing, your holiday at the beaches of the Silver Coast in mid Portugal allows you to discover, experience and be active in the nature and culture.
To stay at home is also doing something !
Most guest have good intentions to discover the surroundings. Although the necessity to leave and do something, is often quickly lost at our holiday accommodations when the kids are playing and enjoying themselves. Or when you relax in the hammock or on lounge terrace next to the swimming pool. No problem because it is your holiday! You just have to come back again to fulfil all intentions!
To beach or to do something else….
Next to a visit to one of the many beaches, you can choose to play tennis or golf, geo catching or drive go carts. Hiking is also one of the favourite holiday Portugal activities of many of our guests. And you can also go out for a drive to discover nice sights, nature and culture

Holiday Portugal activities
At the Silver coast one beach is for someone even more perfect then another. Happily we do not all have the same taste. Be a surf dude yourselves or look to their surf stunts, loose your swimming trunks while you are playing in the huge waves, swim quietly in a lagoon, walk far into the sea bay and be surprised your still can feel the bottom, run up and down huge dunes, play in the shallow water pools that are formed during low tide, search for fossils or beautiful shells, notice the difference in the sand structures at the various beaches, view the stunning sand rocks, and so on, and so on…
Hiking
Casa Cantiga and Casa da Joana are situated on one side close to the nature park of the Serra de Aire e Candeeiros, on the other side close to largest pine tree forest of Europe, Pinhal de Leiria en de Costa de Prata, All nature where amongst others hiking and biking are a real experience.
We have made a few hiking trails directly from our casas and of course you can make use of regular trails in the hiking books and folders. Hiking in the mountains, in the pine tree forest and close the the sea. Stunning mountain area directly at the sea between Sao Martinho do Porto and Nazaré. As well as beautiful trails in the dunes and forest close to our beach apartment SolMar.
We have GPS navigation trails, military maps of guides available to enjoy the best of your hiking holiday Portugal activities. During the hikes through the unspoilt nature, you still meat the shepherd with his goats, enjoy the many amazing views in the hilly scenery and the stunning rocks. Hiking trails are starting from 1 hour for a relax walk, up to 4-6 hours for the experienced hikers.
Geocaching
Another form of hiking is geocaching. Fun for young and old, hike together and search a treasure that is hidden at a certain location. It can be done in half an hour or it can take the whole afternoon or day. Depends on the area and how close you park your car :). The perfect way to get your children hiking.
We already discovered many beautiful places via geocaching, places we would never visit during a normal hike. Try it and love it! Remember you discovered it during your holiday Portugal activities at Casa Cantiga!!
Running
Directly from our holiday locations, many guests practise their running. A nice hobby at home and also one of the popular holiday Portugal activities. Due to lovely climate most of the guests run in the morning or late afternoon. The road and trails in the surrounding of our holiday resort, holiday villa and beach apartment do not have a lot of traffic, mostly hilly. Take your running shoes with you and let your calves burn!
Tennis
The tennis club of Alcobaça has 3 hard courts, situated in the center of Alcobaça. Also not members can rent the courts against a low fee per hour. Bring your tennis gear or make use of the available tennis rackets at Casa Cantiga.
Golf
There are various beautiful golf course in the neighbourhood. Some examples Praia D’el Rey, Óbidos; Botado, Peniche; bom succeso, Obidos, Vimeiro (Torres Vedras). So bring your own golf set or make use of the golf set we have available for our guests.
Go Kart
Close we have Euroindy in Batalha. It is an outdoor Go Kart track of 900 metres. The smallest kids are allowed to drive in a 2 seater with their mam or dad. From some 6 years old, depending on lenghts and skills, the kids can drive their own Go Kart of 120 cc, 270 cc or 390 cc. Even for your first time, don´t worry it´s safety first. It is a great place to learn to drive, to feel the kick, go faster but stay in control!
It is still affordable to drive your laps here in Portugal at Euroindy Batalha. The most difficult part is driving home again in your rental car……
