Life before Portugal
It all started back in 1990 when Sandra met Maurice at the funfair in Veghel, a small town in the south of Holand. They lived together some 6 years. Sandra had their own shop in sports fashion, Maurice worked in Telecom. An opportunity came by and we moved to the Praque in the Czech Republic, where Maurice got a job. We loved Prague, great town, proud people! Our first child Robin was born and that changed live for ever!
Some years later Maurice accepted a next job in Budapest, Hungary. Another great and challenging town with even a better climate. Rowan, our second was born and that kept Sandra busy next to a lot of voluntary work for the less fortunate people in town.
A short while after the internet bubble exploded, work stopped suddenly in Budapest and we moved back to Netherlands. We thought it would be the right place for the kids to grow up.
But after all these years working and living abroad, in fact we could not settle any more in the Netherlands. Nothing wrong here but having tasted the liberty of living and working anywhere we want, is challenging and attractive. So we decided to move on.
The discovery tour
The idea was to start a new life down south in Spain or Portugal. We were not familiar with both countries. Early 2006 we started our discovery tour by a big van and a caravan. In the Netherlands we quit our work, rental house and stored our stuff. We bought schoolbooks to teach our kids during the trip and we hit the road.
Spain was nice, the Algarve as well but both “to many and to busy”. The nature was not green enough and to touristic and yet to many foreigners living there. Not the place for us to live 365 days per year with kids growing up. We thought the inland was to dry and deserted. The north of Portugal is beautiful but to rocky and quite, at least to our opinion.
For us, the coast line above Lisbon was our best discovery compared to the rest. The nature, the culture, the people, the possibilities and general service level all added up to the highest score. An enormous diversity and a pleasant climate completed our sense to live here. A perfect place to start our new life, company and loads of integration challenges!
Home in Portugal
After all these years, we feel at home in Alcobaça and Portugal. The kids experience the best of 2 worlds. They go to the local schools and sport clubs. Regularly they have to give the helping hand at the Casa. Next to Casa Cantiga, Sandra is still active with voluntary work for the less fortunates, Maurice still works frequently international in Telecom.
This puts all we do in perspective and assures we keep enjoying life and work with Casa Cantiga and her guests.
We do not live far from out holiday locations. We live in the center of Alcobaça, closer to the schools of the kids
Every day we are present at our small scale and child friendly holiday resort Casa Cantiga, available for contact via phone and messenger. Regularly we pass by at holiday villa Casa de Joana or holiday beach apartment SolMar.
Next to this we organise frequently shared hikings for all our guest, we go karting or have a diner at one of our local village fairs or restaurants.
We speak the language, we know the way and are ready to give you a splendid holiday
Seja Bem-Vindo! Welcome!
