The first EV in town
Read the electric driving experiences from the owners of Casa Cantiga holiday accommodations. This time: “There is an EV charging station, but we are not allowed to use it?!?”
The first “EV” in the village Alcobaça.
In Portugal we have “Moove Oeste”. This is a co-operation between various local municipalities who want to stimulate electric driving. Also my village Alcobaça participates.
Our holiday guests frequently talk about the electric driving developments in the Netherlands or Germany, therefor this was an exciting offer to try electric driving for myselves. I drove the “EV” and liked it very much. The twizy felt like a moter cycle and just hearing the wind in stead of the engine…..perfect!
Recently we bought our own “100% EV”, the first one in Alcobaça. A Kia Soul EV, caribian blue! Wow what a nice car.
The Kia Soul EV doesn´t have the auto pilot like the popular Tesla, but it is by far cheaper and I still like to drive myselves. Also the Portugese government contributes in the purchase and driving of “EV´s”, which makes it even more financially interesting.
After buying, the next challange is to discover “where” the infrastructure is, to charge your batteries?
After some studying, you discover the big plans for electric driving in Portugal (see amongs others www.mobie.pt). Already quite a lot of charging stations are available in the big cities. On going installation work to realise up to 50 fast chargers next the highways, but in Alcobaça…. no charging post available.
But ….I just mentioned the charging station of Moove Oeste. What about that one? That one is not supposed to be used by the public….. Just by the Twizy of Moove Oeste……. I requested formally to use it because of absence of other charging stations nearbye. Formal answers: Moove Oeste and Alcoçaca municipality don´t allow it.
So stimulating YES, YES, YES, but using the available infrastructure ….. unfortunately.
A nice experience if you have the first EV in town.
